What is a bath sponge?

A black coloured and somewhat round-shaped animal is a bath sponge with a body, mainly made of fibres of a protein- sponging. Due to this, these organisms have good water-holding capacity and so were used for bathing during the old days. Other than this, it was also used for making pillows and cushions. These were also used as wetting material for sticking postal stamps and counting the currency notes. Animals with the simplest body plan and called ‘Sponges’ reproduce by budding, an asexual method and / or by sexual method. Besides, they have good regeneration ability.
