Enacted since 17th October 2000, the IT ACT-200 was amended in 2008. According to the act, a person who commits cyber crime has to face stringent punishment like imprisonment for 3 years and fine up to 5 lakh. Maharashtra is at the forefront of states in controlling cybercrimes and it has been proved to be the first state to start a separate cyber crime unit.
