Sacred Grove is the forest conserved in the name of god and is considered to be sacred by the society. These are not conserved by the government forest department. These areas have special protection, since the sacred grove is conserved in the name of god. There are many such clusters of thick forests present not only in Western Ghats of India but in the entire country. In India, there are over 13000 sacred groves.
