It has become possible to treat genetic disorders using gene therapy by applying biotechnology. Examples: Phenylketonuria (PKT) is caused by the genetic changes in hepatocytes (liver cells). Gene therapy can be used to treat this. This method is called somatic cell gene therapy. All the cells except for the sperms and ova in the body are called somatic cells.
